Melbourne Weather

The weather in this southern city by the bay can vary considerably – especially in early spring and late autumn, when temperatures fluctuate so much that locals describe the phenomenon of having “four seasons in a day.” Far dryer than Sydney, Melbourne receives just 24 inches of rain annually, with October being the wettest month.  Summer (December through February) is warm but pleasant, with an average day being in the lower 80’s (F) and heatwaves reaching to above 100 (F). The city’s coastal location also brings in a refreshing southerly sea breeze.  Winters (June through August), in contrast, can be near-freezing, but rarely does it ever snow.
